وجدتُ النّوى إذ فقدتُ الشّبابَ

وجدتُ النّوى إذ فقدتُ الشّبابَ

فيا ليتني لم أكُنْ فاقِدَهْ

فيا ليتني لم أكُنْ فاقِدَهْ

I came to know separation when I lost my youth;

When youth has passed away I find content;

so, oh, if only I had not lost it!

Would I had not thus its loss lamented!

فصرتُ أُحاوِلُ صيدَ الحسانِ

فصرتُ أُحاوِلُ صيدَ الحسانِ

وأتْعَبُ فيهِ بلا فائِده

وأتْعَبُ فيهِ بلا فائِده

So I took to trying to hunt the beauties,

So I try now to capture gracious looks;

and I grow weary at it to no avail.

But weary myself, with nothing augmented.

وحالُ أثافِيكَ مُخْتَلّةٌ

وحالُ أثافِيكَ مُخْتَلّةٌ

إذا ما عَدِمْتَ لها واحِدَه

إذا ما عَدِمْتَ لها واحِدَه

And your pot-support stones are out of balance

The state of thy sandals, when one is lost,

when you are missing one of them.

Is troubled indeed, with one absented.
