وَغَيّر الحادثاتُ قَفْشي
Time has delivered me over to calamities,
Time has surrendered me to calamities,
and the vicissitudes have altered my bow.
And life's vicissitudes have altered my skin.

وكنْتُ أمشي ولستُ أعْيَا

فَصِرتُ أعيا ولستُ أمشي
I used to walk and never tire;
I used to walk without growing weary;
now I tire though I do not walk.
Now I grow weary without walking.

As though, now that I have grown old, I were an eagle
As though, now that I have grown old, I were a vulture
whose chick feeds him in a nest.
Whose chick feeds it in a nest.
