تذوبُit melts بهاthrough it ذوبُthe melting of النّضارِpure gold المميَّعِliquefied
And a radiant candle, with a forelock of fire,
melting in its heat like pure gold made liquid.

إذاwhen بزغتit rises كالشمسlike the sun فيat رأسِthe crest of مَطلَعِa rising-place
It takes the sun’s place after its setting,
when it rises like the sun at the crest of a horizon.

تُعَبّرُit gives expression عنهاto it فيin إشارةthe gesture of إصبَعِa finger
It conceals what it endures, save a complaint
which it expresses through a finger’s gesture.

تَحَكّمَhas gained mastery فيهاover it منfrom غَرَاميmy passion المُنَوّعِmanifold
And you think it displays forms of love’s anguish,
which has mastered it, born of my manifold passion:
كَسَقميlike my sickness وإِيراقيand my sleeplessness وصَبريand my patience ومَوقفيand my standing
وصمتيand my silence وإطراقيand my downcast gaze ولونيand my color وأَدمُعيand my tears
like my sickness, my sleeplessness, my patience, my standing,
my silence, my downcast gaze, my hue, and my tears.
