وطائرٍand a bird فيin الجوِّthe sky منfrom مغربthe west
فيin قطعهِits cutting through الليلthe night إلىtoward مشرقِthe east
And a bird in the sky, from the west,
cutting through the night toward the east—
كأنّماas though تنبعُwells up منfrom سحبهits clouds
شعلةa flame نفطnaphtha للدجىof the darkness مُحْرِقِa burner
as though from its clouds there wells up
a flame of naphtha, consuming the darkness.
لوif كانَwere يَبقىto remain نورُهُits light فيin الدجىthe darkness
كانwould be كحَطِّlike placing التبرraw gold فيin الميلَقِthe crucible
Had its light remained in the darkness,
it would have been like placing raw gold in the crucible.
