If our meeting is maintained through letters,
If there is a connection to our meeting in books
then every parting is painful when they cease.
Then every painful separation in their discontinuity

And if the days are by nature disposed to
And if the days are set against

So do not withhold from us the lines of a letter
So do not cut off from us lines of a letter
that brings your forms before me when I hear it.
That represents your faces to my hearing
فليfor I have كَبِدٌa liver بالبينby separation منكمfrom you تَصَدّعَتْhas cracked
وطولُand the length of اغترابيmy exile زائدٌincreasing فيin انصداعهاits fracturing
For my liver has cracked from separation from you,
For my liver from your separation is cracked
and my long exile deepens its fracture.
And my prolonged estrangement adds to its cracking
لأصْبَحْتُI have indeed become فيin الدّنْياthis world حريصاًeager عليكمُfor you

I have indeed become eager for you in this world;
I have become in the world eager for you
behold, one like me is surely indifferent to its pleasures.
Indeed one like me is ascetic to its possessions
