أحِنّI yearn إلىfor العشرينtwenty عاماًyears وبينَنَاand between us
أحِنّ إلى العشرين عاماً وبينَنَا
ثلاثونthirty يمشيwalks المرءُa person فيهاin them إلىtoward خلفِthe rear
ثلاثون يمشي المرءُ فيها إلى خلفِ
I yearn for the age of twenty, and between us lie
I yearn for the twenties between us
thirty years, in which one walks backward.

ولوand if صحّwere possible مشيٌwalking نحوهtoward it لابتَدَرتُهُI would hasten to it
ولو صحّ مشيٌ نحوه لابتَدَرتُهُ
فجئتُthen I would come الصِّباyouth أحبوI crawl علىon العينِthe eye والأنْفِand the nose
فجئتُ الصِّبا أحبو على العينِ والأنْفِ
And if walking toward it were possible, I would hasten to it,
If it were right to walk toward it I would hasten
then reach youth, crawling on my eye and nose.
And come to youth, kissed on the eye and nose
