And a vessel filled with wine, its glass transparent,
A glass whose bubbles heal
revealing ruby water frothing with pearls.
Of ruby wine and pearl-like full moon

وعقولُنا بالسكر منه تُبَدّدُ
A goblet: drinking from it gathers our pleasures,
A cup that gathers our pleasure in its drink
and its intoxication scatters our minds.
And scatters our minds with its sweet intoxication
ويَخِفُّand it grows light مَلآناًwhen full ويثقُلُand it grows heavy فارغاًwhen empty
ويَخِفُّ مَلآناً ويثقُلُ فارغاً

كالجسم تُعدَمُ روحُهُ أو تُوجَدُ
And it grows light when full and heavy when empty,
Light when filled, heavy when emptied
like a body whose soul is absent or present.
Like a body without spirit, or with spirit regained
