بريقتهاthrough her saliva أحْيَاI live وإلاand otherwise فلاthen no مَحْياlife
My cure for pain lies in the dusky lip.
My remedy for pains lies in her dewy lips,
Through her saliva I live; otherwise, there is no life.
Their radiance revived me, else no life have I.
وكيفَand how وريّاwhile Rayya لاnot تجودُgives freely بريقةٍwith a little saliva
إذاwhen لمnot أجِدْI find فيin الماءِthe water منfrom ظمإthirst رِيّاrelief from thirst
And how can I live, when Rayya will not give a little saliva,
How could the dawn not shed its radiance,
when I find no relief from thirst in water?
If I found no water to quench my thirst?
فتاةٌa maiden تديرُdispenses السحرَmagic منfrom لحظa glance مُقلةٍan eye
A maiden who dispenses magic through a glance of her eye,
A girl who works her magic with a glance,
And turns away as she wishes in her aloofness.
وتعرضُand she turns away إعراضَthe turning away of المنىwishes فيin صدودهاher rejection
ولوْand if أقبلتْshe approached بالوَصْلِwith union أقبلتِwould approach الدّنْيَاthe world
And in her rejection she turns away as wishes do;
If she would unite with me, the world would unite,
And were she to turn to me in union, the world would turn to me.
Why did she not grant safety from her sword-like eyelashes,
وماand what بالهاis the matter with her لمnot تُعْطِshe grants مِنْfrom سيفthe sword of جفنهاher eyelid
أماناًsafety وقدthough already أعطاهhe granted it منfrom سيفهhis sword يحيىYahya
And why has she not granted, from her eyelid's sword,
When Yahya granted safety from his sword?
safety, though Yahya has already granted it from his sword?

وأضْحَىand came to be زمامُthe reins of الملكsovereignty فيin يدهhis hand العَلياexalted
Ibn Tamim defended the faith of right guidance with sword-blades,
And the reins of kingship came into his noble hand.
and the reins of sovereignty came to rest in his exalted hand.
If our hopes wither, his gifts

And even if our hopes grow barren, his gifts are
Are gardens that lacked no watering for ants.
gardens that have never lacked watering from his fingertips.
