ماnot هَكَذاin this way يُتألَّفُare won over الأُلّافُthe lovers
ما هَكَذا يُتألَّفُ الأُلّافُ
In your presence, I have come to hope and fear.
I became fearful and hopeful with you
This is not how lovers are won over.
Not like this do friendships form
ياah كيفَhow باتhas become عليّtoward me قلبُكِyour heart جامداًcold
يا كيفَ بات عليّ قلبُكِ جامداً

يَقْسو فليْسَ يُلينُهُ استعطافُ
Ah, how has your heart grown cold toward me?
Oh how your heart to me is now so rigid
It hardens, and no plea for compassion softens it.
Hardened, not softened by entreaty

And the pearls of your mouth sparkled with their brilliance,
The pearls of your mouth sway with their brilliance
And the carnelian of your cheek is clear and translucent.
The ruby of your cheek so clear, so pure

You have not dealt fairly with me in love,
You did not treat me fairly in matters of love
And fairness is the most precious thing in doll-like beauties.
And justice is most precious among women
