يا من يعادي الهوى جهلاً بموقعه

ولا يزال يعادي المرء ما جهلا
O you who oppose love, ignorant of its influence,
O you who ignorantly oppose passion
A person never ceases to oppose what he does not know.
A man will always oppose what he does not know
أماis it not that رأيتyou have seen الهوىlove استولىgained mastery بفتنتهthrough its temptation
أما رأيت الهوى استولى بفتنته
علىover النبييينthe prophets واستغوىand led astray بهاthrough it الرسلاthe messengers
على النبييين واستغوى بها الرسلا
Have you not seen love gain mastery through its temptation
Haven't you seen passion conquer with its charm
Over the prophets, and through it lead the messengers astray?
The prophets and seduce the messengers as well
فإنso if شككتyou doubt فسلthen ask زيداًZayd بقصتهabout his story
فإن شككت فسل زيداً بقصته
وأورياءand Uriah يقولاthe two will tell الحقthe truth إنif سئلاthe two are asked
وأورياء يقولا الحق إن سئلا
So if you doubt, ask Zayd about his story,
If you doubt, ask Zayd about his story
And Uriah; they will tell the truth if asked:

لمwhy بتsevered هذاthis one طلاقاًby divorce حبلthe cord زوجتهof his wife
