In the councils of caliphs

ومن تقصرُ عنه

and you beyond the reach

And whom the praises

of the poets’ praises,

Of poets fall short of

يا سيدي كيف أصبح

O my lord, how are you this morning

My lord, how did you become

after drinking the medicine?

خرجت منه تضاهي

خرجت منه تضاهي

في الحسن بدر السماء

في الحسن بدر السماء

You emerged from it, rivaling

Coming out of it, rivaling

in beauty the full moon in the sky,

The full moon in beauty

في ثوب صحة جسمٍ

في ثوب صحة جسمٍ

مطرزٍ بالشفاء

مطرزٍ بالشفاء

in a garment of bodily health,

In a garment of health

embroidered with healing.

Embroidered with recovery
