زيادة دجلةٍ والورد غضٌ

قد استولى على قلبي هواهُ

قد استولى على قلبي هواهُ

The Tigris is rising, and the rose is fresh;

The abundance of the Tigris and the rose being green

love for it has taken possession of my heart.

Its love has taken over my heart

فهذي ليس يفتنني سواها

فهذي ليس يفتنني سواها

وهذا ليس يسبيني سواه

وهذا ليس يسبيني سواه

So this alone enchants me,

For she is the only one who captivates me

and this alone takes me captive.

And he is the only one who imprisons me

أما فيكم فتى يرثي لصحوي

أما فيكم فتى يرثي لصحوي

فيسقيني المشوم ولو خراه

فيسقيني المشوم ولو خراه

Is there no young man among you to pity my sobriety,

Is there not among you a young man who grieves for my vigil

and give me a drink, the wretch—even if it is his shit?
