  1. فما استجارت بعمرو مظلمةٌ

    بل حين جاءتك أنت يا عمر

    So no grievance sought refuge with ʿAmr;

    rather, when it came to you yourself, O ʿUmar,

  2. فالشعر قد صار فيها وأتى

    مع ذا بتفصيل ذلك الخبر

    verse had already become part of it, and brought
