هربتُI fled منfrom موطنيmy homeland إلىto بلدٍa land
هربتُ من موطني إلى بلدٍ
قدalready صفرmade whistle الجوعhunger فيهin it منقاريmy beak
قد صفر الجوع فيه منقاري
I fled my homeland to a land
where hunger has made my beak whistle.
يقولsay قومٌsome people فرfled الخسيسthe base fellow ولوand if
يقول قومٌ فر الخسيس ولو
كانhe had been فتىa brave man كانhe would have been غيرnot فرارone given to flight
كان فتى كان غير فرار
Some people say, “The base fellow fled; had he
been a brave man, he would not have been one to flee.”
لاno عيبshame لاno عيبshame فيin الفرارflight فقدfor indeed
لا عيب لا عيب في الفرار فقد
فرfled نبيthe Prophet الهدىof guidance إلىto الغارthe cave
فر نبي الهدى إلى الغار
No shame, no shame in flight, for indeed
the Prophet of guidance fled to the cave.
