وكاتبٍand a scribe بارعٍaccomplished بلاغتُهُhis eloquence
وكاتبٍ بارعٍ بلاغتُهُ
تجلوreveals عليناto us كلامspeech سحبانSahban
تجلو علينا كلام سحبان
And an accomplished scribe, whose eloquence
A skilled writer whose eloquence
reveals to us the speech of Sahban;
Reveals to us the words of mist
وخطهand his handwriting والكتابand the book فيin يدهhis hand
وخطه والكتاب في يده
ينثرscatters دراًpearls أمامbefore مرجانcoral
ينثر دراً أمام مرجان
and his handwriting, with the book in his hand,
His script and book in hand

لوif كانwere عندin the possession of المأمونal-Ma'mun جوهرهhis gems
لو كان عند المأمون جوهره
أهداهhe would have gifted it أوor بعضهsome of it لبورانto Buran
أهداه أو بعضه لبوران
Had al-Ma'mun possessed his gems,
If al-Ma'mun possessed his essence
he would have given them, or some of them, to Buran.
He'd gift it, or some of it, to Boran
