إن عاب ثعلب شعري

أو عاب خفة روحي

If Thaʿlab finds fault with my poetry,

If a fox criticizes my poetry

or finds fault with the lightness of my spirit,

Or finds fault with my lively spirit

خريت في باب أفعل
