May God prolong your life, O son of ʿAmr,

May God prolong your life, O son of Amr,

for the lifespans of thirty thousand vultures.

A life of thirty thousand eagles,

وجهك عند الصباح شمسي

وجهك عند الصباح شمسي

وأنت عند المساء بدري

وأنت عند المساء بدري

Your face in the morning is my sun,

Your face in the morning is sunny,

and in the evening you are my full moon.

And you at night are full-moonlike.

مولاي ذا اليوم يوم سعدٍ

أشرف عندي من ألف شهر

My lord, this day is a day of good fortune,

My Master, this day is a joyous one,

more exalted in my eyes than a thousand months.

Nobler to me than a thousand months,

نذر فيه إذا التقينا

A vow for this day, when we meet:

On which I vowed, if we meet,

drunkenness after drunkenness until night,

To drink till dawn after tipsiness,

مع قينةٍ لا تريد غيري

فهي تجيني بغير حذر
