يا صنماً يعبده شعري
بلاwithout ثوابٍreward وبلاand without أجرpayment
بلا ثوابٍ وبلا أجر
O idol whom my poetry worships,
O idol worshipped by my poetry
without reward and without payment.
Without reward or recompense
إنif لمnot تكنyou are دباًa bear فخاطبهمthen address them
إن لم تكن دباً فخاطبهم
بلفظةwith a word تسمعis heard فيconcerning أمريmy case
بلفظة تسمع في أمري
If you are not a bear, then address them
If you are not a bear, then speak to them
with a word that is heard concerning my case.
With a word they hear regarding my affair
انطقspeak بنفسٍwith a breath قبلbefore أنthat يحسبواthey think
انطق بنفسٍ قبل أن يحسبوا
أنكthat you are منof طينclay وآجرand brick
أنك من طين وآجر
Speak with a breath before they think
Speak with a soul before they reckon
that you are made of clay and brick.
