بياض الشيب تكرهه الغواني

ويعجبها سوادٌ في الشباب

ويعجبها سوادٌ في الشباب

Beautiful women hate the whiteness of gray hair,

The maidens abhor the whiteness of old age

and black hair in youth delights them.

And are pleased by the darkness in youth

وشيبُ لحى الزناة فدتك

وشيبُ لحى الزناة فدتك

ضراطٌ في اللحى عند القحاب

And the gray of adulterers’ beards—may I be your ransom—

By your life! The gray hair of adulterers
