تَوَلَّعَت بِعِتابٍ

لِمُستَهامٍ بحبِّه

She has taken to reproaching

My burning love for one who spurns me

one consumed by love for him;

Though lovers all have felt his scorn before

وَقَد عَصى كُلَّ لاحٍ

وَقَد عَصى كُلَّ لاحٍ

فَما لَها وَلِعَت بِه

فَما لَها وَلِعَت بِه

though he has defied every fault-finder—

This hopeless longing leaves me sore

so why has she become obsessed with him?

Yet still for him my heart does yearn
