صِلgrant union قاصِداًa seeker قَدalready أَمَّhas headed لكtoward you
إِذsince لَمdid not تَجِدyou find فَتىa young man حُرnoble
Grant union to a seeker who has come to you,
Come purposefully, as fate has come to serve you,
Since you have found no noble young man.
Since you did not find a free man,
فَأَنتَso you عِقدٌa necklace مُثمَنُprecious
لَمdid not تَفتَقِرyou need لواسطةfor a central jewel
For you are a precious necklace,
So you are a precious jewel,
With no need of a central jewel.
You did not need a mediator.
وَأَنتَand you شكلa form حسنُbeautiful
وَالجودُand generosity فيكin you ضابطةa governing rule
And you are a beautiful form,
And you are a beautiful figure,
And generosity is your governing rule.
And generosity in you is inherent.

So do not say, O benefactor,
So do not say, O benefactor,
'This praise is sophistry.'
This praise is an exaggeration.

You promised me a dream-phantom.
The phantom you promised me,
How, when my eye has not slept?
How, while my eyes did not sleep,
وَسارَand it journeyed مُذsince فارَقتَنيyou left me

And since you left me, it journeyed—
And it left since you left me,
My heart, behind you—until it could go no farther.
And after you my heart broke off.
فاِرحَمهُso pity it فَهوَfor it قَدalready فَنيhas wasted away
واِنظُرand look لهfor it فيماconcerning what صَنَعit has done
So have mercy on it, for it has wasted away.
So have mercy on it, for it is exhausted,
And look kindly upon it for what it has done.
And look after it for what it made.
فَإِنَّهfor indeed it فيكbecause of you هلَكhas perished
وَمَسَّهُand touched it منكfrom you الضُرharm
For indeed it has perished for love of you,
For through you it perished,
And harm from you has touched it.
And was touched by your harm.

I went mad from the day of separation;
I went mad from the day of passion,
So pity my downfall—may you be safe.
So have mercy, you who completed my death,

And the hidden love manifested,
Since my tears soaked the bosom of my robe.
Since the tear wet my pocket,

And I have no life,
If my beloved passes along with me.
Unless my beloved passes by me.

O my moon, my heart is a celestial sphere.
O my moon, my heart is yours,
Move within it, for it has been gladdened.
Travel in it, for it is fascinated.

And cover the distance of the journey,
O full moon, favor me with a meeting.
O full moon, bestow the meeting generously,

And come to me, O moon.
And within me—indeed, I am in misery.
And grant me, for I am in misery,

He visited, and I said when he attacked
With an Indian sword.
With a sharp blade like an Indian sword:
Come and make a condition,

ماwhatever شئتyou wish فَهوَfor it عِنديin my possession

'Grant me union, and stipulate
Whatever you want is mine.
Whatever you wish, for I have it.'
He said give me gold and pearls for you,

فَقُلتُso I said لَوif تَخشىyou fear درturn! (uncertain reading)
He said, 'Bring gold, and houses are yours.'
So I said, if you fear harm...
Then I said, 'If you fear, turn' [wording uncertain].
