بيوسُفٍthrough Yusuf ناصرِchampion of دينthe faith الهُدىright guidance
بيوسُفٍ ناصرِ دين الهُدى
أحْرَزْتُI have attained فيin العَلياءِeminence أقصىthe utmost المَدىreach
أحْرَزْتُ في العَلياءِ أقصى المَدى
Through Yusuf, champion of the faith of right guidance,
With Joseph the champion of righteous guidance
I have attained the utmost bounds of eminence.
I reached the farthest ends of the heights
لمْdid not أعْلُI rise دونَshort of الأفْقِthe horizon لكنّنيbut I
لمْ أعْلُ دونَ الأفْقِ لكنّني
أبْغيI seek إلىto أنجُمِهits stars مَصْعَداa way up
أبْغي إلى أنجُمِه مَصْعَدا
I have risen no lower than the horizon, yet I
Though not atop the horizon, yet I aspire
seek a way up to its stars.
To climb to its stars a ladder
أقابلُI face الصّهْريجَthe pool لكنّهُbut it
أقابلُ الصّهْريجَ لكنّهُ
منfrom كفِّهhis palm قدِindeed اسْتمدّhas drawn الجَداbounty
من كفِّه قدِ اسْتمدّ الجَدا
I face the pool, yet it
I face the torrent, but it
has drawn its bounty from his palm.
From his palm has derived vigor
وحوْليَand around me النّهْرُthe river ولكنّهُbut it
وحوْليَ النّهْرُ ولكنّهُ
لوْلاwere it not for نداهُhis bounty لمnot يطِبْbe pleasant مَوْرِداas a watering-place
لوْلا نداهُ لم يطِبْ مَوْرِدا
And around me is the river, yet it
Around me, the river, but without
would be no pleasant watering-place without his bounty.
Its voice, no watering place would be sweet
ودونيَand before me الرّوْضُthe garden ولكنّهbut it
ودونيَ الرّوْضُ ولكنّه
لوْلاwere it not for شذاهُhis fragrance لمnot يجِدْfind مُنْجِداa helper
لوْلا شذاهُ لم يجِدْ مُنْجِدا
And before me lies the garden, yet it
Below me, the meadow, but without
would find no helper without his fragrance.
Its fragrance, it would find no joy
ألْقَىI meet سَناradiance الأنجُمِthe stars منfrom وجْهِهِhis face
ألْقَى سَنا الأنجُمِ من وجْهِهِ
بطلعَةِwith the rising الصُبْحِof dawn إذاwhenever ماemphatic particle بَداhe appears
بطلعَةِ الصُبْحِ إذا ما بَدا
I meet the stars’ radiance with what comes from his face:
The stars cast their radiance from his face
dawn’s rising, whenever he appears;
At the rise of dawn when it appears
وسائِلَand the current النّهرِof the river إذاwhenever ماemphatic particle جرَىit flows
وسائِلَ النّهرِ إذا ما جرَى
منْfrom جودِthe generosity كفّيْهِof his two palms ببَحْرِwith a sea النّدىof bounty
منْ جودِ كفّيْهِ ببَحْرِ النّدى
and the river’s current, whenever it flows,
The river's currents when they flow
with a sea of bounty from his generous palms.
From his palm's generosity with the sea of dew
لاmay not زالcease to be فيin نصرٍvictory وفيand in عزّةٍglory
لا زال في نصرٍ وفي عزّةٍ
مُبَلّغَenabled to attain القصْدِthe aim برغْمِdespite العِدَىthe foes
مُبَلّغَ القصْدِ برغْمِ العِدَى
May he ever remain in victory and glory,
He remains in triumph and in might
enabled to attain his aim, despite his foes.
