O imam who has made guidance manifest as a sun,

drawing near in radiance, yet remaining beyond touch.

The servant of your bounty hopes for generosity from you,

that has kept bringing unruly hopes within reach.

O generous one among kings, as for my steed,

my heart finds no solace for its absence.

And to replace it with one better than it,

your servant looks to you morning and evening.

And a steed bestowed from the royal court—

wherever it alights, a robe of distinction is donned.

My aim is that it lodge with me today,

pleasing in its qualities—I am not seeking a bride,

like the chief judge when he strove until

he won both mounts, figuratively and literally.

    لم يدَعْ فيهِ جودُ كفّكَ لَبْسا

    My appeal to you, my lord, has truly proved sound;

your hand's generosity has left no doubt about it.

Do not leave a garden of thought without bounty,

whose plantings have long flourished through your bounty.

You are loftier in rank and know best, yet

your servant has reminded you—the one who never forgets.
