أأبا عليٍّ صِفْ لنا الشُهُبَ التي

مازِلْتَ ترْصُدُها بكُلِّ طَريقِ

O Abu Ali, describe for us the shooting stars that

O Abu Ali, describe for us the comets

you have kept watching along every path.

That you have continued to observe along every path

إنْ قُلْتَ هُنّ خواتِمٌ قُلْنا نعَمْ

إنْ قُلْتَ هُنّ خواتِمٌ قُلْنا نعَمْ

لكِن بأعْلاها فَصوصُ عَقيقِ

لكِن بأعْلاها فَصوصُ عَقيقِ

If you say they are rings, we say yes,

If you say they are rings, we’ll say yes

but atop them are gems of agate.

But at their peaks are gems of ‘aqeeq
