تُصيبُstrike سِهاميmy arrows نحورَthroats العِدَىthe foes
تُصيبُ سِهامي نحورَ العِدَى
وتُدْنيand bring near سَريعاًswiftly بعيدَthe far-off المَدَىreach
وتُدْني سَريعاً بعيدَ المَدَى
My arrows strike the throats of foes,
My arrows strike the enemy's throat
And swiftly bring the far-off within reach.
And swiftly bring those far away near
ولِمْand why لاnot تُصيبُstrike وقدْand indeed فوّقَتْهاnocked them
ولِمْ لا تُصيبُ وقدْ فوّقَتْها
يَدُthe hand اليوسُفيّof al-Yusufi إمامِimam الهُدَىof guidance
يَدُ اليوسُفيّ إمامِ الهُدَى
And why should they not strike, when they have been nocked
Why, then, do they not strike as they ought
By the hand of al-Yusufi, the imam of guidance?
Though guided by Yusuf, imam most dear
