    أطْلَعْتَ للسّعدِ بهِ أنجُما

    Congratulations on your arrival, O lord of humankind;

through it you have made stars of good fortune rise.

You alighted in a dwelling in Málaga

that rivaled heaven's bright stars in loftiness.

From it the gaze roams over a spring meadow

that holds highland and lowland travelers captive.

The notables among its people raced one another

to don the adorned robe of eminence.

When you arrived, they said: “By God, how

compassionate our lord is, and how merciful!”

    هيْهاتَ جلَّ الصُبْحُ أن يكْتَما

    This dawn of guidance has greeted you;

impossible! The dawn is too glorious to be concealed.

This is the Yusufian station, which—

by God—is so exalted and so learned!

Its rulings restrain the hand of oppression,

and its guidance dispels the pitch-dark night.

You extended a hand for kissing; and

earlier, the horizon's clouds had poured rain by night.

So minds were bewildered about its nature,

unable to tell which of the two was the shower of rain.

As they kissed it, you would think them

sandgrouse circling over their watering place.

Then they withdrew, after the praise that

they recited before you in well-wrought words.

My lord's return to their homelands—

they have made it a feast day and a festival.

What is Mount al-Fath, and who are its people,

since they have grown ungrateful for the blessings?

I can almost see them: terror in their land

refuses to let the bonds of peace be knit together.

I can almost see them: their doubter has become

captivated by what you bestowed on him, enamored,

hoping to find in you, for guidance's triumph,

a valiant lord, generous and bountiful.

Where are piety, justice, and virtue among

a people for whom oppression has become a brand?

And every one of them will stumble who

set the steeds of aggression racing, or committed crimes.

I can almost see my valiant, esteemed lord

already granted authority at the meeting of the two seas.

I can almost see my lord, the imam of guidance,

raising beside it a landmark for the faith.

    And every stubborn unbeliever in

the field of jihad has become plunder.

My lord, your servant's praise, long aimed at

attaining his hopes, has ever been a ladder.

O sign that, since it was made to rise, has made clear

through justice a matter that had long been obscure.

O mercy that, against all I fear,

    I have made a sheltering cave and a sanctuary;

O blessing whose bondsman I have been called,

through you my rank among humankind has risen.

Behold, I am like pale camels that have been laden

with sweet drinking water, though they complain of thirst.

Your prestige is a shade over your servant; and

because you are far away, longing's embers have been kindled.

May you ever endure, while victory, as you desire,

dwells in the loftiest protected precinct at your gate.

Prayers for your victory and glory have been offered

by those who circled the House and those who entered ihram.
