    بها سَبيلُ العُلى والعزّ يُنتَهَجُ

    Glad tidings, at whose arrival Islam rejoices;

    through them the path to eminence and glory is trodden.

    فقلّ أنْ تُبْذَلَ الأرواحُ والمُهَجُ

    Gifts whose impact among humankind is immense;

    so offering lives and heart's blood is but little.

    Kindness from God has filled all existence; never

    have ages and years brought its like.

    فقصّرَتْ في مَدى أوْصافِهِ الحُجَجُ

    Favor from God, whose bounties have greeted us;

    so arguments fall short of describing its full measure.

    كِلاهُما راقَ منْهُ المنْظَرُ البهِجُ

    For this, faith and worldly life have both rejoiced;

    its radiant spectacle delights them both.

    And the faces of glad tidings rise, lovely in their radiance,

    with cheer and the joy that relief brings.

    Where the horizon of eminence is clear and radiant,

    where the garden of meanings is fragrant and sweet-scented.

    والغُصْنُ معْتَدِلٌ والنّهْرُ منْعَرِجُ

    And the spreading trees bend, and blossoms smile;

    and the bough stands straight, and the river winds.

    The bright stars resemble rubies strung in order,

    red, enclosed within the jet of their night.

    And hearts rest secure in safety, just as

    the tongues of petitioners quiver with thanks.

    All this is but for tidings of health that have arrived,

    bringing success; faith and worldly life speak eagerly of them.

    Away with it, the pain that came to afflict the one

    through whom the path to the faith's victory is trodden.

    للهِ من فُرَجٍ وافَى به فرجُ

    Welcome to him whose hand was put to work in his conquest;

    what openings, praise be to God, relief has brought!

    My lord, every tongue gives thanks for blessings

    immense, and every heart is engrossed in hopes.

    Your servant never sought to summon his fortitude

    without patience turning aside from his heart.

    Your servant never sought to draw his hopes near

    without deep seas tossing him about at grief's command.

    Until recovery began to dispel misfortunes, as

    the radiance of its dawn dispels the darkness of night.

    And if pain has befallen your esteemed lord,

    how many a crisis eases just when it grows severe!

    هَذي المناهِجُ لا أمْتٌ ولا عِوَجُ

    These are the watering places—no second draught, no scant supply;

    these are the paths—no unevenness, no crookedness.

    هَذي الأحاديثُ لا ذنْبٌ ولا حرَجُ

    These calamities—neither visible sign nor trace remains;

    these are the accounts—no sin and no blame.

    والسّتْرُ مُنسدِلٌ والدّهْرُ مُبْتَهِجُ

    Ease is approaching, and hardship departing;

    the protecting veil hangs down, and time rejoices.

    So creation praises Him who bestowed goodness; they have

    been gladdened by the champion of God's faith and rejoiced.

    All this, while the patron of unbelief has sent them—

    ships, in whose waters the fire of battle glows.

    This is the enemy whose vessels have arrived

    for war, lifted by a swelling wave from their sea.

    He remained at the head of an anchorage, motionless,

    as though his own breast were tight and constricted.

    يعْتادُهُمْ هوَسٌ يقْتادُهُمْ هوجُ

    He came with people whom hope had beguiled;

    frenzy repeatedly assails them; recklessness leads them.

    As though, whenever they aimed for a position,

    the blow of guidance's sword set their heads reeling.

    And he of Yusuf-like graces—welcome to him as king!

    The rays of dawn break forth from his visage.

    This is holy war; had he not been afflicted

    with suffering, they would neither have descended nor ascended.

    So every eye is turned toward its mark,

    and every noble steed is roused to meet him.

    I seem to see my lord, his battalions already hastening

    toward the foes, as the dawn of resolve breaks.

    I seem to see his swords, white at their striking edges,

    red-adorned, mingling with the necks of the yellow-hued.

    I seem to see his banners, their emblems soaring,

    as he bars the foes' way, whichever path they take.

    And hearts find calm through the awe he inspires,

    while wars raise dust against his enemies.

    And the chanting steeds' neighs have rung out in song,

    where neither ramal nor hazaj can avail.

    لم تدْرِ أعيُنُها ما الغُنجُ والدّعَجُ

    And on the spear-shafts are blue eyes—their points;

    their eyes have never known coquetry or dark-eyed beauty.

    Battlefields where oft-renewed war rages on,

    and the sword's arbitration puts an end to contention.

    Watering places whose approaches the horses do not shun,

    though their water is mingled with the enemies' blood.

    فمِن نواسِمِها يُسْتَنشق الأرَجُ

    And victory's gardens have gladdened the world;

    so from their breezes sweet fragrance is breathed in.

    O sun of guidance, risen on the horizon of lofty heights,

    from which the clouds of battle-dust draw apart.

    O proof whose validity the world affirms,

    within whose folds the proofs of kings are contained.

    You have eclipsed the renown of the noblest kings; indeed,

    lamps disappear before their sun when it shines clear.

    And you have never ceased displaying, at every moment,

    noble deeds that make one forget those who passed away.

    So may you endure, O king of Islam, a dawn of guidance,

    the meaning of existence, while humankind's kings are rabble.
