Why have the riding camels summoned their swift ones for the night journey,

where the east wind has shared its tale with you?

Love-maddened when they resolve to go—every Indian-forged sword,

masculine, hopes, as a helper, for their feminization.

    يَهْدي شَذا الزّهْرِ الأنيقِ بُعوثَها

    It brings you a greeting with the morning;

the scent of lovely blossoms guides its messengers.

Where love casts its snares, whose

worn strands the hands of forgetfulness have never mended.

And the battalion of longings—its raider was repelled

by patience, which came to it and became its rescuer.

And morning has met the darkness with a turban,

to wrap and wind it, fashioned from its own dawn.

Welcome to the breezes of the seasons, whenever

they pour their rains upon the hearts' drought.

If they recount news of those who dwelt in the protected precinct,

they lay before you their old tales and their new.

So it is as though the tidings of Yusuf's reign—

we welcome their renewal and their coming to pass.
