Joy to the noblest faith of guidance—
Joy to the noblest faith of guidance
for Yusuf, its champion, is safe.
for the safety of its champion, Yusuf!

Joy and glad tidings to the proud steeds,
Joy and glad tidings to the white-blazed steeds,
and to the Samharī lance and Mashrafī sword.
and to the Samhari spear and the Mashrafi sword!

Inevitable destiny ran its course, then turned back;
Inexorable fate ran its course, then turned back,
Providence said to it, “Easy now—stop.”
and Providence said to it, 'Easy—halt!'

ولمْand did not تَثْنِهِturn it back هِزّةُa sway المَعْطِفِof the flank
The steed hurled itself without warning,
The steed pitched forward without warning,
and the mantle’s jolt did not turn it aside.
nor did a sway of the flank turn it back.
فعنْthen away from أعطَفِthe most compassionate الخلْقِof creation ماwhat بالهُits state
تَرامىpitched forward سَريعاًswiftly ولمْand did not يعْطِفِturn aside
Toward the tenderest of all creatures—what possessed it,
Then what ailed it, that from the kindest of creatures
to rush so swiftly and show no tenderness?
it plunged so swiftly and did not turn aside?
ولكنand yet لهُit has العُذْرُan excuse فيماfor what أتَىit did

Yet it has an excuse for what it did:
Yet it has an excuse for what it did:
it neither stumbled from frailty nor overreached.
for it did not stumble from weakness, nor exceed due bounds.

Upon its back there rose, in you, a valiant lord,
In your person, a valiant lord mounted its back,
compassionate, tender, generous, and true.
compassionate, tenderhearted, generous, faithful.

His is a palm whose bounty is recounted through the night,
His is a palm whose bounty is now recounted
from the sea, from its thick-laden clouds.
on the sea's authority, from that palm's pouring clouds.

His is a countenance that, if morning could imitate it,
His is a countenance: were morning light to mirror it,
splendor would no longer hide from it.
its radiance would not keep vanishing from sight;
وساجَلَهاand vied with it النّجْمُthe star لمْwould not يحْتَجِبْbe veiled

Were the star to vie with it, it would not be veiled;
and were the star to rival it, it would not be veiled;
were the full moon to aspire to it, it would not be eclipsed.
and were the full moon to aspire to it, it would not be eclipsed.

بغيْرِby other than السّجودِprostration فلمْbut did not يكْتَفِbe content
Then it sought to give thanks for that blessing,
So it sought to give thanks for that blessing
but without prostration it was not satisfied.
without prostration, but was not content.
فمدّso it extended إلىtoward سجدةِa prostration الشُكْرِof thanks كفّاًa hand
وقدْwhile already راعَهُalarmed it هائِلُthe terror الموقِفِof the scene
So it stretched out a hand toward prostration at the brink,
So it stretched out a hand to prostrate in thanks,
and the terror of the moment had alarmed it.
while the terror of the scene had alarmed it.

But you escaped severance from existence;
But you were safe, so all existence was gladdened
your station has never swerved from generosity.
by a presence that never turned away from generosity.
فللهِso, by God بُشْرَىglad tidings أتَتْcame عندَهاat its occurrence

By God, what glad tidings came at that moment!
What glad tidings, by God, arrived then!
Through them, Time itself became my giver of gifts.
So time, through them, became my giver of gifts.

The servant has spoken fervently because of them,
Indeed, this servant has spoken ceaselessly on their account,
though were he to offer his soul, he would not do them justice.
and even if he gave his life, he would not do them justice.

May the garden of hopes forever yield its harvest
And may the garden of wishes ever be harvested
beneath the luxuriant shade of your care,
beneath your care's most luxuriant shade.
