جَهِلتَyou were ignorant فَعادَيتَso you became hostile to العُلومَthe sciences وَأَهلَهاand their scholars
جَهِلتَ فَعادَيتَ العُلومَ وَأَهلَها
كَذاكَthus يُعاديis hostile to العِلمَknowledge مَنwhoever هُوَhe جاهِلُهignorant of it
كَذاكَ يُعادي العِلمَ مَن هُوَ جاهِلُه
You were ignorant, so you became hostile to the sciences and their scholars.
You opposed knowledge and its people out of ignorance
Thus, whoever is ignorant of knowledge is hostile to it.
So does the ignorant oppose knowledge
وَمَنand whoever كانَwas يَهوىlongs أَنto يُرىbe seen مُتَصَدِّراًat the forefront
وَمَن كانَ يَهوى أَن يُرى مُتَصَدِّراً
وَيَكرَهُand hates لاnot أَدريI know أَصيبَتhave been struck مَقاتِلُهhis vitals
وَيَكرَهُ لا أَدري أَصيبَت مَقاتِلُه
And whoever longs to be seen at the forefront,
Whoever desires to be seen as a leader
And hates saying 'I do not know'—his vitals have been struck.
Yet dislikes - I know not - will his warrior be stricken
