You two, heed no one who reproaches in matters of love.
Do not listen in love to one who has spurned me,
Rather, give me drink—may you both be given a thirst-quenching draught.
Rather keep giving me drink, you two poured a draft.
لاno وَالَّذيby the one who مَلَكَgave dominion over الهَوىpassion جَسَديmy body
ماnot هَجَعَتslept مُقلَتايَmy two eyes إِذwhen رَحَلاhe departed
No, by the one who gave passion dominion over my body,
No, by Him who owns my heart and body,
My eyes did not sleep when he departed.
My eyelids have not rested since they departed.
لاmay not زالَcease طَيفٌa phantom لَهُof him يُؤَرِّقُنيkeeps me sleepless

May his phantom never cease to keep me sleepless,
A specter of him continues to torment me,
Knocking slumber away from me whenever it alights.
Troubles turn away from me when they alight.
لاno صَبرَpatience عَمَّنaway from the one who إِذاwhen تَصَوَّرَhe takes shape ليbefore me
رَأَيتُI saw بَدرَthe full moon السَماءِof heaven قَدalready أَفلاit has set
I cannot bear his absence; whenever he takes shape before me,
I have no patience for one who, if he pictures for me,
I see that the full moon of heaven has already set.
I would see the full moon of the sky has set.
