نَجمُthe star العُلىof glory بَعدَكَafter you مُنقَضُّfallen
نَجمُ العُلى بَعدَكَ مُنقَضُّ
وَرُكنُهُand its pillar الأَوثَقُthe firmest مُنهَضُّshattered
وَرُكنُهُ الأَوثَقُ مُنهَضُّ
After you, the star of glory has fallen,
The loftiest star has lost its glow since you departed
And its firmest pillar is shattered.
Its firmest pillar begins to shake and fret
ياO واحِداًpeerless one لَمdid not تُبقِyou leave ليfor me واحِداًa single one
يا واحِداً لَم تُبقِ لي واحِداً
يُرَجّىis hoped for بِهِthrough him الإِبرامُbinding firmly وَالنَقضُand undoing
يُرَجّى بِهِ الإِبرامُ وَالنَقضُ
O peerless one, you have left me no one
O my only one, you left me with not a single one
Who might be relied upon to bind and unbind.
To turn to for support, or to break with yet
أُديلَwas granted victory بَطنُthe belly الأَرضِof the earth مِنover ظَهرِهاits back
أُديلَ بَطنُ الأَرضِ مِن ظَهرِها
يَومَthe day حَوَتenfolded جُثمانَهُhis body الأَرضُthe earth
يَومَ حَوَت جُثمانَهُ الأَرضُ
The earth’s belly was granted victory over its back
The day the earth enfolded his body in her midst
The day the earth enfolded his body.
She poured out her belly’s secret vault
وَلّىdeparted الرَدىdeath يَومَthe day تَوَلّىdeparted بِهِwith him
وَلّى الرَدى يَومَ تَوَلّى بِهِ
وَوَجهُهُand his face أَزهَرُradiant مُبيَضُّgleaming white
وَوَجهُهُ أَزهَرُ مُبيَضُّ
Death departed the day it bore him away,
Time turned its back in grief when bearing him away
While his face was radiant, gleaming white.
While his face shown bright and lit up like dawn
