كُنbe كَيفَhowever شِئتَyou wish فَإِنَّنيfor indeed I لَكَfor you وامِقٌloving
أَنتَyou المَليكُthe sovereign وَقَلبِيَand my heart المَملوكُthe slave
Be as you wish, for I am in love with you.
Be as you wish, for I am devoted to you
You are the sovereign, and my heart the slave.
You are the king, and my heart is your captive
كَمhow many لَيلَةٍa night قاسَيتُهاI endured it بِسُهادِهاwith its sleeplessness
وَالقَلبُand the heart تَحتَbeneath لَظىthe blaze الهَوىlove مَسبوكُmelted and cast
How many a night I have endured with its sleeplessness,
How many nights have I spent sleepless
And the heart is molten beneath love’s blaze.
With my heart melted by passion's heat
كَبِدٌa liver تَذوبُmelts وَمُقلَةٌand an eye مَوقوفَةٌheld fast
دَرَجَthe steps of السُهادِsleeplessness وَدَمعُهاand its tears مَسفوكُpoured out
A liver melts, and an eye is held fast
A liver that melts, and swollen eyes
On the steps of sleeplessness, its tears poured out.
Tears flow as ardour climbs high
كَيفَhow التَخَلُّصُescape مِنfrom مُقارَنَةِcompanionship with الهَوىlove
وَالجِسمُand the body مُلتَبِسٌentangled بِهِin it مَنهوكُexhausted
How can one escape love’s companionship,
How to free myself from passion’s grip
When the body is entangled in it, exhausted?
When my body is intertwined and feeble?
