خامَرَتpervaded قَلبَهُhis heart هُمومٌsorrows تَلَظَّتblazed
خامَرَت قَلبَهُ هُمومٌ تَلَظَّت
نارُهاtheir fire فيin الحشاthe breast فَلَيسَتso it does not تَبوخُdie down
نارُها في الحشا فَلَيسَت تَبوخُ
Sorrows pervaded his heart and blazed;
Their fire within his breast does not die down.
خَفِيَتlay hidden فيin الفُؤادِthe heart ثُمَّthen أَذاعَتrevealed themselves
خَفِيَت في الفُؤادِ ثُمَّ أَذاعَت
لِدُموعٍto tears تَجيشُwell up ثُمَّthen تَسوخُsink back
لِدُموعٍ تَجيشُ ثُمَّ تَسوخُ
They lay hidden in his heart, then revealed themselves
To tears that well up, then sink back.
خافَhe feared نَأيَseparation from الحَبيبِthe beloved فَاِستَخرَخَso he sought help (word unclear as written) الدَمthe tears (word continues)
خافَ نَأيَ الحَبيبِ فَاِستَخرَخَ الدَم
عَcompletion of the split word 'tears' وَماءُand the water الجُفونِof the eyelids نعمَhow excellent الصَريخُthe rescuer
عَ وَماءُ الجُفونِ نعمَ الصَريخُ
He feared separation from the beloved and sought help from tears;
And the water of the eyelids is a fine rescuer.
خُنتَyou betrayed مَنone who لَوif دَعَوتَهُyou called him وَهوَand he was مَيتٌdead
خُنتَ مَن لَو دَعَوتَهُ وَهوَ مَيتٌ
ظَلَّwould keep يُصغيlistening مُسارِعاًhastening وَيُصيخُand straining to hear
ظَلَّ يُصغي مُسارِعاً وَيُصيخُ
You betrayed one who, if you called him even in death,
Would still listen, hastening and straining to hear.
