وَتُفّاحَةand an apple مِنfrom سَوسَنٍlilies صيغَwas fashioned نِصفُهاhalf of it
وَتُفّاحَة مِن سَوسَنٍ صيغَ نِصفُها
وَمِنand from جُلَّنارٍpomegranate blossom نِصفُهاhalf of it وَشَقائِقِand anemones
وَمِن جُلَّنارٍ نِصفُها وَشَقائِقِ
And an apple—half of it fashioned from lilies,
And an apple from a lily formed half of it
and half from pomegranate blossom and anemones.
And half of it from a pomegranate and poppies
كَأَنَّas though النَوىseparation قَدalready ضَمَّjoined مِنfrom بَعدِafter فُرقَةٍparting
كَأَنَّ النَوى قَد ضَمَّ مِن بَعدِ فُرقَةٍ
بِهاin it خَدَّcheek مَعشوقٍa beloved إِلىto خَدِّcheek عاشِقِa lover
بِها خَدَّ مَعشوقٍ إِلى خَدِّ عاشِقِ
As though separation, after parting, had joined
As if the stars have joined after separation
within it a beloved’s cheek to a lover’s cheek.
With it a lover's cheek touched a cheek of a lover
