وَحَمراء قَبلَ المَزجِ صَفراء بَعدَهُ

أَتَت بَينَ ثَوبَي نَرجسٍ وَشَقائِقِ

أَتَت بَينَ ثَوبَي نَرجسٍ وَشَقائِقِ

And a wine—red before mixing, yellow afterward—

Red before mixing, yellow afterwards

Came between the two robes of narcissus and anemones.

She came between narcissus garb and daisies

حَكَت وَجنَةَ المَعشوقِ قَبلَ مِزاجِها

حَكَت وَجنَةَ المَعشوقِ قَبلَ مِزاجِها

فَلَمّا مَزَجناها حَكَت خَدَّ عاشِقِ

فَلَمّا مَزَجناها حَكَت خَدَّ عاشِقِ

Before being mixed, it resembled the beloved's cheek;

She told the tale of the beloved's cheek before mixing

Then, when we mixed it, it resembled a lover's cheek.

When we mixed her, she told the lover's blushing cheek
