هَذا اِبنُ يَحيى لَيسَ بِالمِخراقِ
O you who kiss the palm of every lavish giver,
O you who kiss the palm of every charlatan,
here is Ibn Yahya—no mere lavish giver.
This is Ibn Yahya; he is no charlatan.
قَبِّلkiss أَنامِلَهُhis fingertips فَلَسنَfor they are not أَنامِلاًfingertips
قَبِّل أَنامِلَهُ فَلَسنَ أَنامِلاً
لَكِنَّهُنَّbut they are مَفاتِحُkeys الأَرزاقِsustenance
لَكِنَّهُنَّ مَفاتِحُ الأَرزاقِ
Kiss his fingertips: they are not fingertips,
Kiss his fingertips, for they are not fingertips,
but keys to sustenance.
But they are the keys to sustenance.
