عِفظيرُʿIfẓīr إِنّاwe indeed اِختَلَفناhave disagreed
عِفظيرُ إِنّا اِختَلَفنا
فيconcerning الفِعلِthe verb مِنfrom فاعِلينِtwo agents
في الفِعلِ مِن فاعِلينِ
ʿIfẓīr, we have disagreed
O clever one, we have differed
Over the verb with two agents.
In the verb, between two agents
فَقالَso said قَومٌsome people يُثَنّىis made dual
فَقالَ قَومٌ يُثَنّى
لِجَمعِناbecause of our combining الهَمزَتَينِthe two hamzas
لِجَمعِنا الهَمزَتَينِ
So some said it is made dual
Some said it gets dual inflection
Because we combine the two hamzas.
To join the two hamzas therein
وَقالَand said قَومٌsome people يُعَدّىis made transitive
وَقالَ قَومٌ يُعَدّى
بِمُلتَقىat the meeting of الساكِنَينِthe two vowelless consonants
بِمُلتَقى الساكِنَينِ
And some said it is made transitive
Others said it gets passive inflection
At the meeting of the two vowelless consonants.
Where two consonants meet within
وَأَنتَand you أَعلَمُmore knowledgeable مِنّاthan we are
وَأَنتَ أَعلَمُ مِنّا
بِذاabout this وَذاكَand that وَذَينِand these two
بِذا وَذاكَ وَذَينِ
And you know better than we do

About this, that, and these two,
About this, that, and therein
لِأَنَّكَbecause you الدَهرَforever فِعلٌa verb
لِأَنَّكَ الدَهرَ فِعلٌ
يُعتَلُّis weak مِنin جِهَتَينِtwo respects
يُعتَلُّ مِن جِهَتَينِ
For you are forever a verb
For you, O time, are a verb
That is weak in two respects.
