أَخوكَ الَّذي أمسى بذكرك مغرما

أَخوكَ الَّذي أمسى بذكرك مغرما

يتوب إليك اليوم مما تقدما

يتوب إليك اليوم مما تقدما

Your brother, who has become enamored of remembering you,

Your brother who was infatuated with your memory

turns to you in repentance today for what came before.

Repents to you today for what has passed

فإن لم تصله رغبةً في وصاله

فإن لم تصله رغبةً في وصاله

ولم تك مشتاقاً فصله تكرما

ولم تك مشتاقاً فصله تكرما

So if you do not reconnect with him out of desire for his company,

So if you do not wish to unite with him

and do not yearn for him, then reconnect with him out of generosity.

And you were not longing for him, then pardon him generously

فقد والذي عافاك مما أبتلي به

فقد والذي عافاك مما أبتلي به

تندم لو أرضاك أن يتندما

تندم لو أرضاك أن يتندما

For indeed—by Him who spared you what afflicts me—

By He who spared you from what afflicted me

he has felt remorse, if his remorse would please you.

You will regret it if you please him, that he regrets

وباللَه ما كان الصدود الذي مضى

وباللَه ما كان الصدود الذي مضى

ملالاً ولا كان الجفاء تجهما

ملالاً ولا كان الجفاء تجهما

And by God, his former turning away was not

By Allah, his rejection in the past

weariness, nor was his coldness sullenness.

Was not out of boredom or disdain

فلا تحر بن بالغدر من صد مكرهاً

فلا تحر بن بالغدر من صد مكرهاً

وأظهر إعراضاً وأبدى تجهما

وأظهر إعراضاً وأبدى تجهما

So do not provoke with treachery one who turned away unwillingly,

So do not be suspicious of one who was deceptive in his rejection

and showed aversion and displayed a scowl.

And showed aloofness and frowned

فلم يلهه عنك السلو وإنما

فلم يلهه عنك السلو وإنما

تأخر لما لم يجد متقدما

تأخر لما لم يجد متقدما

For forgetfulness did not draw him away from you; he only

For he was not distracted from you by amusement, rather

held back because he found no way forward.

He held back for not finding a way forward
