من كان يشجي بحبٍ ما له سبب

فإن عندي لما أشجى به سبب
Whoever is anguished by a love without a cause,
He who loves without cause tires himself out;
I indeed have a cause for what anguishes me.
Unlike me, for my love there is a reason.

كر الليالي ولا تودي به الحقب
My love for him is innate to my soul; it is not changed
My love for him is innate, time won't change it;
by the turning of nights, nor do the ages destroy it.
No matter how long the nights, this love remains.

ففي هوى مثله يستغنم العطب
If lovers have no escape from ruin,
If lovers are destined to face hardship,
then in loving one like him, ruin is counted a gain.
Then for a love like mine, such pain's a gain.
