The wine is indebted to the drinker of wine

فوصلٌ يكسب المشتاق سقماً

Thus union brings the yearning lover illness,

So union makes the longing one ill

And no constitution can withstand separation.

And separation cannot be endured

فهل يصل السقيم إلى شفاءٍ

إذا كان الدواء هو السقام

Can the ailing, then, attain a cure,
