تمتع من حبيبك بالوداع

فما بعد الفراق من اجتماع

Savor bidding your beloved farewell,

For after parting there is no reunion.

فكم جرعت من هجرٍ وغدرٍ

ومن حال ارتفاعٍ واتضاع

For how often I have swallowed estrangement and betrayal,

And states of rising and falling;

وكم كأسٍ أمر من المنايا

شربت فلم يضق عنها ذراعي

And how many a cup more bitter than death

I drank, yet it was not beyond my strength.

فلم أر في الذي قاسيت شيئاً

أشد من الفراق بلا وداع

Yet in what I endured, I saw nothing

Harsher than parting without farewell.

تعالى اللَه كل مواصلاتٍ

وإن طالت تؤول إلى انقطاع

Exalted is God! All bonds of union,

Even if they last long, end in separation.
