I never ceased denying the enemies’ rumors about you,

And the excuse was plain in your bearing,

حتى حسرت لناظري عن سوءةٍ

أغنت أعاديكم عن الأرجاف

أغنت أعاديكم عن الأرجاف

Until you bared before my eyes a disgrace

That spared your enemies the need to spread rumors.

فظللت حين خبرتكم متعرضاً

عنكم بأوساط سورة الأعراف

So, when I came to know you, I kept making pointed allusions

To you through the middle passages of Surat al-A‘raf.

فامضوا عليكم لعنة الله ارتعوا

فامضوا عليكم لعنة الله ارتعوا

في صحبة الأوغاد والإجلاف

في صحبة الأوغاد والإجلاف

Go, then—God’s curse upon you!—and graze

In the company of scoundrels and boors.
