    Who can bring me the tenderness of a brother who cast friendship behind

    His back, then rivaled the spirit in delicacy,

    Until he brings it to this: given a choice between death

    And parting from him, it would choose nothing but death?

    You stirred up strife between me and Time, and there gathered

    Calamities against me, like one mustering in rage and grief.

    Until, when my soul felt secure that you were mine,

    And savored the sweetness of that fresh, untouched draught,

    You gave the nights power over me, and they took their due; whoever

    Is wronged and given the means of redress will take his due.

    فأكمد بكتمان ما تلقى ولا تصف

    O heart, your telling emboldens the one you love;

    So pine, concealing what you endure, and do not describe it.

    أو كنت لم تعترف بالصرم فاعترف

    If concealment has not grieved you, then let it grieve you;

    Or if you have not acknowledged the parting, acknowledge it.

    Tell the nights: 'You hold sway, so rule as you will,'

    And to calamities: 'You have now been given power, so take your due.'
