لعمرك ما قرب الديار بنافعٍ

إذا لم يصل حبل الحبيب حبيب

By your life, the nearness of dwellings is of no use

If a loved one does not keep the bond with the beloved.

وليس غريباً من تناءت دياره

وليس غريباً من تناءت دياره

ولكن من يجفى فذاك غريب

ولكن من يجفى فذاك غريب

Nor is the one whose dwellings lie far away a stranger,

But the one who is shunned—that is the stranger.

ومن يغترب والألف راعٍ لعهده

ومن يغترب والألف راعٍ لعهده

وإن جاوز السدين فهو قريب

وإن جاوز السدين فهو قريب

And whoever goes abroad while the beloved keeps his pledge,

Even if he passes beyond the two barriers, he is near.
