وكنتand I was أرىthinking أنthat قدalready تناهيhad reached its limit بيwith me الهوىlove
إلىto غايةٍa limit ماno بعدهاbeyond it ليfor me مذهبway to go
And I thought that love had brought me
I thought that my love for you had reached
To a limit beyond which I had nowhere to go.
Its furthest limit and could progress no more,
فلماthen when تفرقناwe parted تذكرتI remembered ماwhat مضىhad passed
فأيقنتso I became certain أنيthat I إنماonly كنتI had been ألعبplaying
Then, when we parted, I remembered what had passed,
But when we parted, I remembered the past,
And became certain that I had only been playing.
And realized that I had merely played before.
فقدfor indeed والذيby Him who لوif شاءHe willed لمdid not يخلقcreate النوىseparation
عرضتI have gone mad فماso not أدريI know إلىto أينwhere أذهبI go
For, by Him who, had He willed, would not have created separation,
By Him who, if He wished, need not create desire,
I have gone mad, and do not know which way to go.
I stood perplexed, not knowing where to turn.
