وإني لأدري أن في الصبر راحةً

وإني لأدري أن في الصبر راحةً

ولكن إنفاقي علي من الصبر

ولكن إنفاقي علي من الصبر

And I surely know that in patience there is rest;

I know that there is comfort in patience,

but my expenditure of patience is borne by me.

But my spending of patience is done.

فلا تطف نار الشوق بالشوق طالباً

فلا تطف نار الشوق بالشوق طالباً

سلواً فإن الجمر يسعر بالجمر

سلواً فإن الجمر يسعر بالجمر

So do not quench longing’s fire with longing, seeking

So do not add fire to my longing with more longing,

solace, for embers are kindled by embers.

Seeking solace, for embers are inflamed by embers.
