ياO منyou who تجاوزhave surpassed حدthe bounds السمعof hearing والبصرand sight
ومنand you who يفوقsurpass ضياءthe radiance الشمسof the sun والقمرand the moon
O you who have surpassed the bounds of hearing and sight,
O you who transcends the bounds of hearing and sight
and who outshine the radiance of the sun and moon,
And whose brilliance outshines that of sun and moon
لوif كنتyou were تعلمto know ماwhat ألقىI suffer منfrom السهرsleeplessness
وماand what أقاسيI endure منof الأشجانsorrows والفكرand thoughts
if you knew what I suffer from sleeplessness,
If you knew how I lose sleep
and what I endure of sorrows and thoughts,
And how I suffer heartache and reflection
وماand what تضمنhas held قلبيmy heart منof هواكlove for you إذاًthen
لماwould not رثيتyou pity لجسميmy body منfrom أذىthe harm المطرof rain
and the love for you my heart holds, then
And how my heart contains love for you
you would not pity my body for the harm of rain.
Then you would not lament for my body in the rain

How could rain's moisture harm one whose liver
For how can raindrops harm one whose liver burns
burns, and whose heart is ablaze with the fire of longing?
And whose heart blazes with the fire of longing?
لوif كانthere were دونكbetween me and you بحرthe sea الصينof China معترضاًblocking the way
لخلتI would deem ذاكthat سراباًa mirage دارسeffaced الأثرin trace
If the Sea of China lay barring my way to you,
If the China Sea stood between us
I would deem it a mirage whose traces had faded.
I would make it a mirage, vanishing without trace
ولوand if أذنتyou gave leave وفيهاand within it بينناbetween us سقرSaqar (Hell)

And if you gave leave, with Saqar there between us,
And if hellfire separated us
longing would make wading through the fire in Saqar easy.
Longing would make traversing hellfire easy
ولاand do not تكذبنever disbelieve فماfor no حالstate تضمنهاhas harbored it
قلبthe heart المشوقof the yearning one توازيequals حالthe state منتظرof one who waits
And do not disbelieve: no state ever harbored
Do not doubt, for the state contained
by a yearning heart equals the state of one who waits.
In a longing heart equals that of one waiting
