I feared no turns of time where you were concerned, until

it brought down upon me, through its treachery, what I had not feared.

And your loyalty to me emboldened me so far that

it made me taste death in the wake of my daring.

So I came to you thankful, though the least I am entitled to,

if I am gracious, is to meet you with forgiveness.

And this is distinction enough for you from a friend

who came to you as a reproacher in a grateful man's guise.
