وتزعم للواشين أني فاسدٌ

وتزعم للواشين أني فاسدٌ

عليك وأني لست مما عهدتني

عليك وأني لست مما عهدتني

And you claim to the slanderers that I am faithless

You claim to the slanderers that I am corrupt,

toward you, and no longer as you once knew me.

Though I am not what you knew me to be.

وما فسدت لي يشهد اللَه نية

وما فسدت لي يشهد اللَه نية

ولكنما استفسدتني فأتهمتني

ولكنما استفسدتني فأتهمتني

Yet no intention of mine has turned corrupt—God bears witness;

By God, my intention has not been corrupted,

rather, you corrupted me, then accused me.

Rather it is you who corrupted me and blamed me.

غدرت بعهدي عامداً وأخفتني

غدرت بعهدي عامداً وأخفتني

فخفت ولو آمنتني لأتمنتني

فخفت ولو آمنتني لأتمنتني

You deliberately betrayed my covenant and frightened me;

You betrayed my covenant intentionally and deceived me,

so I was afraid; had you reassured me, you would have trusted me.

So I was afraid, though had you trusted me I would have been faithful.

إلى اللَه أشكو لا إليك فطالما

إلى اللَه أشكو لا إليك فطالما

شكوت الذي ألقى إليك فزدتني

شكوت الذي ألقى إليك فزدتني

To God I complain, not to you, for so often

To God I complain, not to you, for long have I

I complained to you of what I suffer, and you added to my suffering.

Complained of Him who cast me unto you, yet you increased me.
